This is my last Australia report. I graduated from uni on February 7. My host father was surprised about my graduation because I hadn’t told him about that, but he was very glad. After that, we talked a little about uni and my English skill, and my host father said that my English skill had become better than at first. I was delighted. That night, we went to Japanese restaurant, but Japanese restaurant was crowded. There was not enough space, but we didn’t give up. We waited for 1 hour while drinking alcohol at the bar. We went to a Japanese restaurant, because the time had come. The restaurant had a good atmosphere. There were Japanese pictures on the wall and of course only Japanese food on the menu. It’s Japan. I had curry and shabu shabu. They were very yummy, and the rice was especially good, because recently I hadn’t eaten rice. My host father had shabu shabu, and he said it was delicious. It was good night and a fun day.
One day, a new housemate from Japan came. He came to Australia by English tours with many friends. He was planning to stay at home for just 1month, so fast. English tours usually study at uni for 1 to 3 months. They usually talk in Japanese with Japanese friends.
I made a new friend who come from New Zealand. I heard about him while I was playing basketball. His parents live in New Zealand now, and he came to Australia for study in English. I know about English conversation while taking with international students. International students’ English is easier than local people’s English. So we should talk with international students or local students. I think it’s the most important thing.
He asked me, “Would you teach me to play basketball?” I said, “Of course.” I didn’t know if it would be difficult to teach basketball to a foreigner in English. I have body language, so I explained it using both body language and conversation. It was most difficult to explain the rules of basketball, but I could teach my friend the rules, and he understood. I’m still e-mailing with him. He is not in Lismore anymore, which is where I am staying in Australia. He went to Melbourne to study for two years. I can’t meet him now, but I am going to meet him some day, and he can be a guide in New Zealand for me. I’m looking forward to that.
I was going to go to the beach of Byron with him but I couldn’t, so I went to the beach alone. It was not difficult to go alone, because I had been to beach once before. I think Byron is a beautiful city and it is near Lismore. I often go to Byron for swimming in the sea and to buy souvenirs of Australia for friends and family. I often used bus for transport. It only costs 5 dollars to go from Lismore to Byron by bus, so it’s very cheap. Australia people usually use the bus. Do you know opal card? Opal card is used by bus in NSW like Suica and Pasmo in Japan. If you have the opportunity to go to NSW, I think that you should by opal card.
I have to back to Japan in one week. In these 6 months, I had many deep experiences through studying abroad. For example, I had to communicate in English everywhere, Christmas was hot, and more. I had fun, and I think I had a nice host. I miss the house, the host family and Australia. I’d like to come to Australia again someday with friend.
Thank you for reading.
