Lethbridge is getting cold, and it was snowy on October 2nd. I could not believe the fact. Ideally, I should get up at 7 o’clock every morning, but it is a little tough for me because of the cold weather. However, October was a fabulous month and I will describe it.
First, my friends held birthday parties for me. I was very happy about it. Some of them made a great supper for me. They made pasta, gyoza, hamburgers, pizza and cakes. It was amazing.
Second, I enjoyed Thanksgiving Day in Saskatchewan. October 9th was Thanksgiving Day this year in Canada. We do not have this holiday in Japan, and I did not know what people do on the day. I asked my host mother about it and she said, “Eat turkey and just relax.”, and they commonly visit their parents or grandparents. That is why I visited my host father’s parents in Saskatchewan. I ate turkey, stuffing, cabbage rolls, pumpkin pie, and so on. It is standard to eat turkey with cranberry sauce or gravy. Some foods were Ukrainian cuisine. Thanksgiving Day stimulated me to learn about Canadian culture. I cannot wait to experience Christmas in Canada!
Third, I had a lot of fun on Halloween. It was my first time to enjoy authentic Halloween. I carved a face and a bat on my pumpkins, and put these on the front doorway before Halloween night. It was difficult to cut the pumpkins that were as hard as stones, but I succeeded in making the face creepy. Amazingly, people in Canada eat pumpkin seeds which were cooked and seasoned. We can make it easily, and it tastes good. I will try to make it in Japan. On the day, I went trick-or-treating with my host brother and mother in our neighborhood though I am too old to go trick-or-treat. I saw some spooky houses and sophisticated pumpkin carvings. Some children dressed up as a zombie, and others wore a princess dress. It seemed like they were having a great time. I also enjoyed the event fully!
All in all, I feel time flies every day. I have to study hard, and also play hard. I know I do not have enough time to acquire excellent English, but I will do my best. I hope I will be able to have good days in November, too.
